Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has sworn-in 17 commissioners and six special advisers as he kick-starts his second term in office.

The appointees who were sworn-in on Wednesday, January 29, were earlier screened and cleared by the Kogi state House of Assembly.

Notable names in the list include Kingsley Olorunfemi Fanwo who is now the commissioner of information and communications; Mohammed Sani Ibrahim (SAN), commissioner of justice, Idris Asiru Asiwaju, finance, budget and economic planning and Engr. Abubakar Sadiq Ohere, commissioner for works and housing.

Retired Navy Commodore Jerry Omodara also retained his role as the governor’s special adviser on security.

While swearing in the appointees, Governor Bello warned them against “indulging in sensationalism,” stressing that anyone that does that would be fired.

“If you were with us in the first term, we reappointed you because you proved worthy of a second chance but also because of the exigencies of time and politics, especially the zoning formula applicable in your various constituencies permitted it,” the governor said.

He said the newly inaugurated commissioners would form the ‘nucleus’ of his government and tasked them to be open to scrutiny and transparent in their dealings.

Meanwhile, Governor Bello has warned that his administration would deal ruthlessly with all criminal elements in the state, adding that he would not negotiate with bandits under any guise.

The governor made the statement at the just concluded North central Security Summit held in Lafia, Nasarawa state on Wednesday, January 22.

Governor Bello said with the cooperation of the security agencies, traditional rulers and citizens of the state, the Kogi government dealt with insecurity which was commonplace before his administration came on board and it will continue to do so.
