COVID-19: Delta State Govt. Receives Medical Items From NCDC

The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye on behalf of the State government received the items from the NCDC today in Asaba at the premises of the State Contributory Health Commission.

The Commissioner thanked the Management of NCDC for the support rendered, noting that the State government will continue to collaborate with the Agency to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

He assured the readiness of the State government to make judicious use of the items received with a view to protecting residents from the pandemic.

Dr. John Oladejo, Director, Health Emergency Preparedness and Response of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, in a letter sent to the Ministry stated that, since the start of the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the country, the Center has continued to intensify efforts to reduce the risk of spread.

He said with the activation of the National COVID-19 Emergency Operation Centre on the 28th of February, 2020, they have been meeting on a daily basis to coordinate response activities in line with the COVID-19 Incident Action Plan.

Dr. Oladejo reminded the Delta state government that the NCDC strategic stockpile is to support States in outbreak situations.

He advised the state government to forecast, budget and procure items based on needs for a response to the outbreak and other infectious diseases forthwith.

He added that his agency will continue to monitor appropriate storage and general accountability of the materials supplied to them and keep proper records of usage of the supplies.

Our Correspondent gathered that the medical items received by the Delta state government include coveralls, masks, gloves, google protection, boots, hand sanitizers, body bags, face shields, disposal bags for bio-hazardous waste amongst others.
