The Director General of the Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay has assured residents of Warri a liveable and more comfortable city with good road network and recreational opportunities with a view to revamping the economic activities of the area.
Addressing newsmen at the Agency’s office in Effurun, comrade Macaulay said from Monday, December 16 2019, the agency will begin general clean up of the areas as a first step to realizing its mandate.
Comrade Macaulay stated that the agency aims to ensure that its catchment areas are giving proper and adequate attention with focus on ecological and environmental remediation, health, economy and social infrastructure.
He disclosed that the Agency has identified the main challenges militating against urban renewal in Warri Uvwie and Environs to include illegal erection of structures, inappropriate waste disposal, and traffic jams.
He disclosed that to bring the needed development to the areas, proper clean up has to be carried out, stressing that this time it will not be business as usual.
Fielding questions from journalists on past efforts to clean up the areas which did not yield the desired results, comrade Macaulay unveiled that he has secured accommodation in Warri to ensure proper and prompt monitoring of the operations on the agency.
He promised that men with integrity will be engaged to guide against compromise in the discharge of their duties, adding that the agency will approach the challenges gradually and systematically to achieve the set goals.
Comrade Macaulay said his tenure will focus on laying a good foundation to build on and reiterated the commitment of the Okowa administration to continue to develop physical infrastructure in the Warri areas and the state at large
