Gov. Diri Appoints SSG, Others Few Days After Swearing In

Bayelsa State newly sworn-in Governor, Senator Douye Diri has appointed a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Konbowei Benson, as Secretary to the State Government, SSG, while Hon. (Dr.) Peter Akpe, a former lawmaker in the State will serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House.

Sen. Diri made the appointments yesterday in Government House, Yenagoa.

Also in his appointment list were the Chief of Staff, Barrister Geroge Turnah, while Lucky Yonbongha will serve as Special Adviser on Domestic Matters to the Governor.

Recall that Senator Diri was declared the authentic winner of the 2019 governorship election by the Supreme Court following the dissolution of the deputy governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Diego Eremienyo for providing false information in the INEC form CF001.

Diri was thereafter handed his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC as been directed by the apex court.

Following the judgement of the Supreme Court, Senator Diri was then sworn-in barely 24 hours after the court sacked David Lyon, a candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
